Remove an image background
Cut the subject out of any photo and get a clean, transparent PNG. The AI model runs in your browser, so your image is never uploaded.
How to remove a background
Remove the background from an image without uploading it
Most background removers upload your photo to a server and run the cut-out there. This one runs the AI model inside your browser instead, so the photo itself is never sent anywhere. The first time you use the tool, your browser downloads the model files, which takes a little while depending on your connection; after that they are reused, so the next photos start faster.
The model download is the only thing fetched over the network. The cut-out is calculated on your own device, which is why it can take several seconds on an older phone and is quicker on a recent laptop. It also means the tool works for photos you would not want to hand to a stranger, such as pictures of your children or your home.
Your photo is also not stored anywhere after you close the page. There is no account, no history of past cut-outs on a server and no watermark on the result, because there is no server involved in making it.
Which photos give the cleanest cut-out
The model looks for the main subject and separates it from everything else, so it does best when there is one clear subject: a person, a pet, a product or a car, in focus and distinct from what is behind it. Good contrast helps, such as a dark coat against a light wall. Even lighting helps too, because harsh shadows can be mistaken for part of the subject.
Fine hair, fur, glass and objects with holes are the hardest cases, and the edges there may need a second look. Busy scenes with several people or objects of equal importance can confuse it about what the subject is. If a result is not clean, cropping the photo closer to the subject before you remove the background often gives the model a clearer idea of what to keep.
Very small photos give the model less to work with, so use the largest version of the photo you have. You can always resize the finished cut-out later.
Photos taken against a plain wall, a sheet or the sky are ideal if you are shooting specifically for a cut-out. A little space around the subject also helps the model find its outline.
What you get: a transparent PNG
The result is a PNG with a transparent background: the subject stays, everything else becomes see-through. You can place it on any color or photo in a design app, a presentation or an online store listing, and it blends in without a white box around it.
PNG with transparency is larger than a JPG of the same size, because it stores the cut-out exactly. If the file is heading to a website, you can compress the PNG or convert it to WebP, which keeps the transparency and makes the file much lighter.
Typical uses are product photos for an online shop, a profile picture on a plain color, stickers, slides and quick mock-ups. Because the background is removed rather than painted over, you can try the same cut-out on several backgrounds without running the tool again.
