Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG in your browser

HEIC is the format your iPhone saves photos in when the camera is set to High Efficiency. It is compact, but Windows, many websites and plenty of apps cannot open it. This converter decodes each HEIC file inside your browser and saves it as a standard JPG, which opens on every phone, computer and upload form. There is nothing to install, and the photos are never uploaded.

It works the same on a PC, a Mac, an Android phone or the iPhone itself: open the page, drop the .heic files in, and download the JPGs. If you are on Windows and wondering why the photos would not open in the first place, our HEIC vs JPG guide explains the missing extensions.

On an iPhone, you can also stop new photos being saved as HEIC by switching the camera to Most Compatible in Settings, Camera, Formats. Photos you already took stay HEIC, which is where this converter comes in.

Convert a whole batch of HEIC photos

Photos from an iPhone rarely come one at a time. You can drop up to 30 HEIC files into the converter at once, up to 50 MB each, and download all the JPGs together as one ZIP. Each photo is decoded on your device, so a big batch takes a little longer on an older computer, but nothing waits on an upload.

For a whole camera roll, work through it in batches of 30. Your HEIC originals stay exactly as they were, so you can keep them as the master copies and use the JPGs for sharing, uploading and printing.

A batch also keeps the file names: IMG_1234.heic becomes IMG_1234.jpg, so the photos stay in the same order as on your phone and are easy to match up with the originals later.

If the photos were taken in Live Photo mode, each one still converts to a normal still JPG; there is nothing extra to select.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

In practice, no visible quality is lost. The JPG is saved at a high quality setting, and on a screen or in a normal print it looks the same as the original. Technically JPG is a less efficient format, so the JPG file is often larger than the HEIC it came from, which is the price of opening everywhere.

What a JPG cannot hold are the extras some HEIC files carry, such as the short video of a Live Photo and depth information from portrait mode. The converted file keeps the still photo you see. If those extras matter, keep the HEIC original alongside the JPG.

One more thing that carries over unchanged is the image itself: the same framing, colors and resolution. You can print the JPG, attach it to an email or upload it to any form without anyone needing special software.

If you are converting photos to send by email, you can also make them smaller in the same visit: resize the JPGs to 800 pixels on the long edge and many more fit in one message.

Will quality change?
We convert at a high quality setting, so the JPG looks the same as the original.
